Travel Rights

Nov. 13After yesterday's airline crash, your travel plans may have changed drastically and you may be wondering what to do with a non-refundable ticket you couldn't or didn't use.

Travel attorney, Alexander Anolik, says you have consumer rights, but that it's up to you to use them.

Alexander Anolik, travel attorney: "The airline, if they cannot accommodate you in a reasonable time, which may be a two hour time, by most tariffs, they have to either sign over a ticket to another carrier or completely refund your money even of it's a non-refundable ticket."

Alexander has written a number of books about your legal rights when it comes to travel.

You can also call the Office of Consumer Protection for more information about your travel rights at (202) 366-2220 or go to www.dot.gov/airconsumer.
